5AUu. Lady Gaga’s “Chromatica Ball Tour” is officially back on! After being forced to postpone her summer tour earlier this year due to the ongoing threat of COVID-109 (coronavirus), Mother Monster has announced the show will go on after all. On Friday (June 26), the “Rain On Me” singer unveiled new dates for the six-date trek, now kicking off in the summer of 2021. “We’ve been working hard to figure out the safest and soonest way to bring this show to you, but most importantly want everyone to be healthy and able to dance together at the shows as we always have,” Gaga tweeted with the announcement. Kicking off on July 25, 2021, the jaunt will begin with two European stops — in Paris and London — and continue and culminate in North America with performances scheduled in Massachusetts, Toronto, New Jersey, and Illinois. Additionally, those who have already purchased tickets for the original “Chromatica Ball Tour” dates will receive new information concerning Gaga's 2021 performances in an email. As fans know, Gaga was initially intended to head on the road to promote the release of her sixth studio album, Chromatica, back in April. However, the event was pushed back indefinitely because of the coronavirus pandemic, which subsequently caused the recording artist to delay the release of her latest LP from April 10 to May 29. The first glimpse we got of Lady Gaga at Stockholm’s Friends Arena was a throwback. On the big screen, before she emerged onstage proper, Gaga was shown in shadow, more four-legged creature than human, wearing bulbous heels and a tall, imposing crown. This was the Gaga of years gone by – of the era-defining single “Bad Romance” and her wildly successful 2009 release The Fame Monster. Recently, however, we have had so many iterations of Lady Gaga – jazz singer Gaga, Haus Labs makeup guru Gaga, A Star Is Born ingenue Gaga, rock star Gaga, and most recently spoke-in-an-Italian-accent-for-about-a-year-for-House of Gucci Gaga – that it is sometimes easy to forget who she is, or at least who she was when she emerged in the cultural Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta, an Italian girl from New York City (as she is so fond of saying), began her career as a musical theatre-trained singer-songwriter who named herself after a Queen single. After developing a following with hair bows (were we ever so young?) and just-left-of-centre tracks like “Just Dance” and “Poker Face”, Gaga – and her output – grew stranger and more daring, as her grip on mainstream pop became unavoidable. She was Mother Monster, a cult leader bleeding from the eyes at the VMAs and arriving at the Grammys in an is this image of Gaga – the provocateur, always willing to surprise or subvert – that is most associated with her as a live performer. But from the time she released her country-adjacent album Joanne in 2016, she seemed to go AWOL for a while, leaving in her place a bona fide superstar who found herself nominated for Oscars and making records with legends like Tony Bennett, with no need for the shock tactics or, indeed, the agenda-setting pop music of yore. But 2020 proved the perfect time for a return to pop – this time inflected by the hefty pump of house music – just to show that, having mastered the big screen, she really could still do it all. Her fifth album, Chromatica, was what fans had been longing for for years: it featured a concept (Chromatica, she said, was a new world of her invention), bangers aplenty, rarely a downtempo moment, and a frightfully camp Elton John cameo, lest we forgot what a big deal she is these days. If Chromatica was a glimpse at the ways in which Lady Gaga could still innovate within pop, then the much delayed (due to Covid) and much anticipated Chromatica Ball – which made its second ever stop in Sweden – would also be a new interpretation of the Gaga stage persona of her pop tours Gaga performs on stage during The Chromatica Ball Summer Stadium Tour at Friends Arena in Stockholm (Photo: Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Live Nation)She has always been a ferocious rock star whose onstage idiosyncrasies make her one of the best performers in the world to watch live, and that remained true: when we finally glimpsed Gaga for real, she of course performed “Bad Romance” from inside a leather sarcophagus-type garment, and even when she took to her piano to give beautiful, stripped-back renditions of A Star Is Born tracks “Shallow” and “Always Remember Us This Way,” as well as “Edge of Glory” and “1000 Doves,” she did so dressed as a very glamorous bug, decorative headpiece and all. Despite the mask, however, as usual, there are few vocalists who do better when it’s just their voice and the keys; many would simply not be good enough to let rip the way Gaga has always been able to, and tonight, these tracks accounted for her best vocals, swelling to fill the arena, her voice rich and familiar. But it wasn’t all about Gaga’s trademark intimate moments, wherein she turns rooms of thousands into 50-seater dive bars (as she played the opening bars of “Born this Way”, she cooed down the mic: “Just a reminder, this is a ball, and everyone’s welcome here”): the Chromatica Ball was an entire multimedia production, featuring film, live instruments, pyrotechnics and show followed a loose narrative, with the setlist split into Acts, which seemed to take us from Gaga’s inception on the planet of Chromatica to her emergence as a freedom fighter willing to battle for her values of self-expression and love. The format worked well enough, though the crowd’s attention did seem to wane a little during Gaga performs on stage during The Chromatica Ball Summer Stadium Tour at Friends Arena in Stockholm (Photo: Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Live Nation)While some Acts could have been shorter to keep momentum up, particularly strong was the third, ending in “Free Woman”, which saw Gaga effectively moving through the crowd, away from the front stage and onto a smaller one in the middle of the arena, atop which stood her piano. Across the night, the show felt like as much of a celebration of all of the places that Gaga the Popstar has been, as much as it was a showcase for her newest album, and some of the most exciting moments came as we saw Chromatica brought into Gaga’s established oeuvre. During album standout “Babylon,” Gaga performed thrilling new choreography informed by the Fosse-influenced style she has adopted throughout her career, while “Sour Candy” was married with the longtime hit “Telephone” in an earlier Act. The costuming constantly referenced previous eras, and particularly cool was the section whereby Gaga was dressed in authoritarian leather and vinyl, recalling her “Alejandro” music video from back in 2009. Indeed, there was no element of the production that felt accidental, because for Gaga herself, it was clear that being back on tour is deeply meaningful: she suffers from fibromyalgia and has had to cancel live dates in Europe due to illness in the past, (making her return over the last week, beginning in Dusseldorf on 17th July, even more special). The Chromatica Ball, therefore, seems to have been conceived of as a new way for her to perform live (from 2018 to May this year she performed just over 50 dates in a Vegas residency; on this tour there are fewer dates than ever, and it features filmed sections throughout which provide extended breaks between sections). During “1000 Doves”, a new addition to the already much-shared Chromatica Ball setlist tonight, she emotionally told the audience, “For everybody that believed in me that I could be healthy again, thank you.”More from MusicSeeing her back was wonderful, particularly because it seems that of all her personae, Gaga feels most purposeful of all onstage, burning up like a star in the sky in front of a live audience. Perhaps this is the truest, most real Gaga of them her first encore (the second saw her in a metallic claw, performing her Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack single “Hold My Hand”, naturally), she played “Stupid Love”, dancing the choreography with the abandon that has always characterised her live show. While she is able to accomplish so much and occupy so many spaces, from acting to jazz singing, that song reveals something of her own desires: “All I ever wanted was love,” she sang tonight, wrapping her arms around herself. It is onstage, touring a new show, that Lady Gaga is able to finally receive that love. Audiences preparing to see her in the UK next week should get ready for quite a Chromatica Ball continues to 17 September and is at The London Stadium on 29 and 30 July
"Chromatica Ball" to juz szósta trasa Gagi. Rozpoczęła się 17 lipca w Niemczech. W Europie wystąpi również w Arnhem, Paryżu, Sztokholmie i w Londynie. Wielki finał natomiast odbędzie się 10 września w Los Angeles w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Dzięki relacjom z pierwszych koncertów wiemy, że wokalistka dalej trzyma poziom i zapewnia fanom niesamowite show. Gaga opowiedziała o swojej dolegliwości i sposobach leczenia w filmie o jej życiu "Gaga: Five Foot Two". There was a time I thought I'd never be on stage again. I was so sad I couldn't even dream anything but a painful nightmare. I've overcome my nightmare with love, support, trust, truth, bravery, talent and dedication. I am so grateful. I'll see you in BABYLON. #ChromaticaBall— Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) July 15, 2022 Wielbiciele Mavericka mogą odetchnąć z ulgą. Pilot wraca na ekrany kin po 36 latach.
